Can't share Outlook calendars
My new Exchange 2007 SP2/Server 2008 SBS 64-bit server has a problem. All of my users' calendars are shared, so the whole company has "reviewer" permissions. I set these permissions myself, logging into each user's account one at a time on my laptop. This works OK, except for a handful of users whose calendars can't seem to be accessed. When another user tried to open the calendar, they get an error message "cannot display the folder". I've double and triple-checked the permissions in Outlook and with PFDAVAdmin, and they are the same as all the users that work. What am I missing? Thanks!

Have you checked the DACL state by launching the PFDAVADMIN also try moving the problematic user's Mailbox to different Stores? you can also take a look @ below article Working with support to troubleshoot the Outlook calendar in an Exchange environment http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc891495.aspxVinod |CCNA|MCSE 2003 +Messaging|MCTS|ITIL V3|

Yeah, I checked the DACL with PDFAVADMIN, the functional users' calendars look identical to the non-functional ones. I have one server, with one store. The article seems to focus on Outlook issues, not Exchange. My problem seems to be server-side, since it persists across all of my workstations, with Outlook 2003 or 2007.

Permissions for resource mailboxes can be set using the Set-MailboxCalendarSettings cmdlet. Permissions for regular mailboxes can be set using PFDavAdmin .. For setting global calendar settings using PFDavAdmin check out this article: http://blogs.technet.com/austinmc/archive/2009/07/29/how-to-set-the-default-calendar-permissions-for-all-users-in-exchange-2000-2003-and-2007.aspx or this: http://www.msexchange.org/articles/PFDavAdmin-tool-Part2.html Michel de Rooij, MCITP Ent.Msg | MCTS W2008, E2k7Conf | MCSE+Msg2k3 | MCSE+Inet2k3 | Prince2 Fnd | ITIL

OK, I used PFDAVAdmin to set all of the calendars to grant the "reviewer" permission to all of my users at once. No change. Most users' calendars are shareable, some aren't.

I understand the problem exists in Outlook 2003 as well as in Outlook 2007, correct? Are you using Outlook in Online of Cached mode? When Cached mode, is your FDS service functioning correctly (is OAB in sync)? Is the CAS role installed on same server as where the Mailbox role resides? Yes, Outlook 2003 and 2007. I only use online mode, never cached. I don't know what FDS is, but I don't use cached mode, so hopefully it doesn't matter. I don't know what CAS is either, but I only have one server. Is it installed by default?

FDS is File Distribution Service, the service which handles distributing things like the offline address book. But as you said, your using online mode so this doesn't apply. Also, CAS is the Exchange role handling client traffic except MAPI, but you have SBS so 1) you don't get to see this and 2) CAS and Mailbox are on same server. I've seen some reports on problems using mixed clients opening calendars of users using the other version of Outlook, i.e. Outlook 2003 versus 2007. Did you create the shared calendar from Outlook 2007 only? What clients are experiencing problems, Outlook 2003, 2007 or both? I'm uncertain what you mean by "create the shared calendar". The calendars in question belong to users, so they were created when the users' mail accounts were created. I set up the calendar permissions on a station with Outlook 2007. I believe all of the users that are having sharing issues use Outlook 2003, but there are some other Outlook 2003 users that have no problems. However, I've tried accessing the shared calendars using Outlook 2003 and 2007, and the problem is the same.

Hi Steve, From your description, I understand that all the users are not able to access the shared calendar folder for the specific users by using both Outlook 2003 and 2007. At this time, would you please let me know if you create a new mailbox and grant others Reviewer permission to the Calendar folder for the new mailbox, whether the issue can be reproduced? If the issue cannot be reproduced, I suggest you create a new mailbox store and move a problem users mailbox to the new created mailbox store. After that, please remove/re-add the reviewer permission and check whether the issue persists. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mike Shen TechNet Subscriber Support in forum If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Ok, stupid question perhaps, but the uses who are having problems, do they type in the names of the persons who's calendar they're trying to access, or do they select them after clicking "Name"? I.e., what is their default contact list (Address Book > Tools > Options ) .. does it say Global Address List or is it set to an Outlook folder perhaps? Some applications (CRM) may create additional entries in Outlook / AD .. perhaps when typing in the names that address is selected (or they're selecting it from the wrong address book or the wrong entry), but since that entry doesn't have a mailbox it can result in the error you mentioned. Michel- I've tried selecting user names from the list, as well as typing the name and clicking "name". I get the same error either way. The default contact list is "Global Address List".

Mike - I tried creating a new user and the problem didn't reproduce. I've never made a second mailbox store, is that difficult? And if it fixes the problem, would I be able to move them back to the original store and delete the 2nd store so things are simple again?

HiSteve, As the issue does not occur if you create a new mailbox, I suspect the issue may due to the specific mailbox corrupt. Move mailbox to another store is able to clear some logical error. You can refer to following article to create a new Storage Group and a new Store: How to Create a New Storage Group http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123915.aspx How to Create a New Mailbox Database http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb201716.aspx After moving a problem mailbox to another store, please remove and re-add calendar permission to check whether the issue persists. If the issue can be solved, please move the mailbox back to first store and check whether the issue persists. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mike Shen TechNet Subscriber Support in forum If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Thanks Mike, I'll give that a shot on my test server and see how that goes. I'll update this thread again in a few days.

I finally got the chance to try out the new mail store and database...no change, still can't use the shared calendar. Any more ideas?

In Outlook 2003, change the annonomous user permission on the calendar to owner and then back to none.

U should also check with PDFAVADMIN if the free/busy folder is also shared for the specific mailboxes, also try giving the full rights on the calandar and on the free/busy folder and see if that will work.

What I meant was not the creation of the mailbox (with the calendar), but how you granted perms to other usersMichel de Rooij, MCITP Ent.Msg 2007+2010| MCTS W2008, Ex2007+2010 Conf, OCS2007 Conf | MCSE+Msg2k3 | MCSE+Inet2k3 | Prince2 Fnd | ITIL I blog on http://eightwone.wordpress.com/ and tweet on http://twitter.com/mderooij

Did this get resolved for you? I'm running into the same thing--Outlook 2003 calendars won't allow access by Outlook 2007 using Exchange 2007 . . . .
