Can't sort data in Row fields in pivot table

I have a pivot table whose Data Source is a worksheet in the same workbook as the pivot table, and there are 5 Row fields (i.e., columns A - E).  All 5 fields contain plain text.

If I select, for example, "Sort A to Z" from any one of the Row fields' dropdown box, nothing happens.  If I then Refresh the pivot table, still nothing happens.

I noticed that when I first created the pivot table and added each of the Row fields, each one was automatically sorted (A to Z).  However, each Row field sort was a "sub-sort" of the previous Row field's sort.  So, as an example, in order to get the 3rd Row field's data truly sorted A to Z, I have to move it to the 1st Row field position.

Is there a setting I need to set, or something else I need to do in order to utilize each Row Field's dropdown box sorting options and get the outcome I described in the previous paragraph?  Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Hi,

Based on my test, it do can sort for the row field for "sub-sort".

If you said that you cannot do that, then you can use "Custom Sort" to sort the table, then compare the result to the pivot table. Because sometime you cannot just compare the value in one field, it also need to refer to the higher level before the field you looked at.
