Can I put Exchange 2003 Databases on a network drive
Here is the situation: I have a server running E2K3. My database drive is 180GB and it is at capacity. We will soon be moving the users to a new server (2 months away). I would like (as a band-aid) to put the databases on a SAN (UNC presented drive) because I do not have an extra HVA and cannot buy one due to budget restraints. Has anyone done this? Any one seen any articles saying not to do this? I appreciate your help here. Thanks.

Unlikely, but not a guaranteed no. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/839687 is the link to NAS storage. In point of fact you are probably not talking about a SAN. A SAN is (*massive oversimplification alert....*) block storage presented to a server as a LUN, aka a drive letter appearing as local disk. If you are trying to present some storage as a UNC path that is NAS. Same three letters but their rearrangement has massive implications. You talk about an HVA but I guess you mean HBA since the B and H are close together on the keyboard. To connect to a SAN array you don't need an HBA, you can use a simple network card so long as you have iSCSI capabilities on that storage array. If you have budget constraints (as you say) I really can't believe you have a fibre channel only array. "Slechette" wrote in message news:2939dd43-474a-4a7b-8bef-f1e7369f0014...
