Can i upgrade exchange 2003 enterprise to exhange 2007/2010
Our email servers are setup as backend servers running exchange server 2003 enterprise. The front-end server are in our corporate office running the same. I dont want to wait for corporate to upgrade. because of the above, does the front-end server have to be upgraded first?....... thanksRob Davis

You really need to have Corporate involved with your Exchange Migration plan. Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2010 are very different from Exchange 2003, one being Ex2007 and Ex2010 are now roles based. An Exchange 2003 FE is now called Ex2007/2010 Client Access Server CAS. You might also consider an Edge Transport Server Role if that make sense. Again, Corporate and your site should plan out a deployment strategy before proceeding with this major upgrade. But to answer your question, for this type of migration, which requires a co-existence period, the Exchange 2003 FE will need to be upgraded to Exchange 2007 first.MVP Exchange Server
