Can the SMTP relay server, OWA and MX be running on the same server using NLB?
Hi, I am trying to redesign my exchange 2000 exchange. I currently have a A/A clustered mailbox, a smtp server and a separate OWA FE server.I am trying to increase redundancy and would like to move to 2003 A/P mailbox cluster, and NLB across two FE servers. Assuming I have one routing group, is it possible and recommended for me to combine the roles of the SMTP relay servers (using these as the local bridgeheads for the smtp connector) OWA and MX server roles on the two FE servers? In soing so I would expect to provide redundancy for all the server roles. Is this correct? Can you use NLB across sites? Thanks,

Your suggested design is fine.See the section called "MultiSite Network Load Balancing Clusters"I realize its a bit late to reply, but if you havent already deployed this, I'd strongly encourage you to look at Exchange 2007 instead of 2003. It has a lot more flexibility and capability in the areas you are interested in.
