Can you restrict the forwarding or redirecting of email based on group membership or some other user property?
The question has come up about being able to restrict our users from forwarding/redirecting their exchange email to an internet email address? Currently some users are configuring mailbox rules to either forward or redirect their email to their gmail/hotmail mailboxes. We would like to know if this is something that can be blocked at the global level and if we can also pick and choose who can and can't do this. This is mainly for the HIPPA/HITECH and various other restrictions. We are currently running Exchange 2007 but are looking at 2010 also. Any information on either of these would be helpful.Adam

In the EMC, go to Organization Configuration | Hub Transport | Remoite Domains and right-click on Default. On the "Format of original message sent as attachment to journal report" tab (gets my vote for the most non-intuitive name for a config tab MS ever came up with), uncheck "Allow automatic forward".

This is an Org setting. As far as I know, there's no way to pick and choose who can or can't set up a forwarding rule. You can only designate certain recipient domains to allow forwarding to.

This should cover anything that was forwarded by an Outlook rule. It does not affect email that was redirected or copied to another recipient via a transport rule.
