Just installed Exchange 2007 for the first time! Everything appears to be in order but when I tried to crate a storage group and then mount the database, I get this: -------------------------------------------------------- Microsoft Exchange Error -------------------------------------------------------- Failed to mount database 'test3'. test3 Failed Error: Exchange is unable to mount the database that you specified. Specified database: DIGWEB01\TEST Group\test3; Error code: MapiExceptionCallFailed: Unable to mount database. (hr=0x80004005, ec=-2147467259) . -------------------------------------------------------- OK -------------------------------------------------------- I am not sure why this is happening. The really wierd thing is that the Public Folder Database works fine. I can create storage groups with no problem but when I attempt to mount the database, I get the error above. Looking into it further showed that while the directory is being created, the assotiated edb file is not there so it makes sense why I cannot mount it. Without being able to mount the mailbox database I cannot really start to use exchange. Has anyone ever seen this? I have read many posts about people seeing this with the public folders DB but I have not seen anything that helped out with the Mailboxes

Hello, Did you verify that DomainName\Exchange Servers group is assigned Manage auditing and security log user right properly as per KB925825? You may run setup.com /preparedomain also as a worth try

Thanks for the reply! I did give that a shot when I found the article but it appeared to have no effect. I made sure that the Manage auditing and security log user right was assigned to the Exchange servers group. I also tried running the command and got this: Welcome to Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Unattended Setup Preparing Exchange Setup Exchange Server setup encountered an error. I am not sure if this is due to the fact that I have installed exchange 2007 on the server already.

The command "setup.com /preparedomain" at the CLI produced the error mentioned before. Looking in C:\exchangesetuplogs at ExchangeSetup.txt there is a ton of stuff, mainly because my first attempts at installing were done under a local admin account until I reallized that I needed to be using a domain admin account. When I start looking at the install that succeeded it looks fine, at least I did not see any errors that came up. Perhaps there is something screwed up with the transport but I don't know for sure.

As you told that setup successed, did you restart the Information Store service and tried to mount the database after setup? Below link would be useful to check your transport related issue. The topology does not contain any route to Exchange 2000 or Exchange 2003 servers in this routing group in the routing tables

I took a peek at that article and tried to run the command to add a route to our exchange 2003 server but got no response when using the Exchange console in 2008. I then tried running the command to see current routing groups and that also came up with nothing. When running both commands at the console I recieved no errors, but no output either. I went so far as to restart the server but I have still not been able to mount a mailbox database. I think the problem here is that when I create a new mailbox database in the Exchange console, no database file is actually created. This probably explains why I cannot mount it so I guess the question now is why is it that when I create a new mailbox database through the EMC one is not actually made?
