Cannot create a new Excel file using the mouse right-click

Hi,

We have upgraded our office 2010 to 2013 through sccm. upgradation is showing successful.

Everything is working fine except for one thing: I cannot create a new Excel work book using the right-click mouse button.

Right-click -> New -> New Excel Work Sheet

When I click on the newly created file, I get this message:

Excel cannot open the file 'New Microsoft Excel Worksheet.xlsx' because the file format or file extension is not valid. Verify that the file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of the file.

Can anyone help me with this issue?

Weird.  Restart your machine.  See if that fixes it.

Hi Dilipppatel,

Please try the method from this thread, I have copied here:

==

Try something very simple using a window Explorer (not IE)

From Explorer menu

Tools - Folder Options  - File types - XLSX - Advance - Set Default

Tools - Folder Options  - File types - XLX - Advance - Set Default

Tools - Folder Options  - File types - XLSX - Advance - Actions - New - Press Edit

Check Application Used to perfor action - make sure path is correct

Office15 is excel 2013

Tools - Folder Options  - File types - XLX  : Do same as above

Hi,

The Excel shortcut of new items might be corrupted, I recommend you re-create one to test, please see the article below:
