Cannot delete a corrupt public folder (Exchange 2010). ISINTEG not for use with 2010?
HI All,
I have public folder that cannot be deleted.
In Outlook, it starts the delete process but flags a warning that some items have already been moved or deleted. Indeed, some items are displayed in the message list, but no preview comes up. When trying to then open them I get a “cannot open item”
pop up box.
The problem first occurred after I started deleting 1000's of emails from this folder, and then Outlook crashed..
I have tried using the EMC Public folders tool, and this errors too:
--------------------------------------------------------
Microsoft Exchange Error
--------------------------------------------------------
Action 'Remove' could not be performed on object 'Deleted Items'.

I tried remove-publicfolder from the Exchange Power shell, but get this error

With a corrupt folder, before in earlier versions of exchange I would have run isinteg. but this isn’t available for 2010 as I understand?
So any thoughts on what’s causing the issue and how to resolve?

You might try using the PFDAVAdmin tool.

Hi Ed,
I thought I tried it before with no joy, but to be sure, tried again..
when i try to connect up to the public folders, the tool pops up with a warning that it cannot connect to
https://internalFQDN/exadmin/admin/external domain.com/public%folders/ with error: The server returned an error: (404) Not found.
it then also says it tried same url with htttp, and this time the error is (403) Forbidden..
Any thoughts? is the tool supported on EXC2010, as the MS download page doesnt mention it?
EDIT
Am using the similar EXfolders tool, which does work..
I can see items within the corrupt folder, and also switch the view to "Deleted contents"
some progress.
I thought it may be best to recover a deleted item, using the tool. then using Outlook, see if the item is now back/viewable in the folder. [And then delete it]
But when i try "recover item", i get a Recover items failed pop up?
I have turned on full logging in the tool, but no log file is there, by the way?
Is there a way of just editing the properties of the parent folder, so that the folder is deleted? I just want rid of the folder, the contents are not required..
PS. When are MS going to release an updated isinteg? It seems that that should have been a 2010 compatible version availiable from release date!
all very well pointing out that the the integrity is checked 24x7, but what happens in this situation? If the app itself can check integrity, and thus must be aware of the schema changes (from 2007) that stop isinteg working, surely it wouldnt be too hard
to update isinteg?

It might not be.

Okay . . . so nevermind the above links. They may be useful to someone
else so I'll still post this.

How about setting an age limit on the folder? Setting it to, say, one
day should get rid of the folder contents. Setting the "Deletion
settings" on the folder to zero days should get rid of anything that's
already deleted.

That's something that only MS can answer.

Hi All,
I have set the deleted item retention to 0 days. However the items still cant be opened in Outlook. or recovered with Exfolders - same errors as before. Do i need to wait some time for the items to be flagged as deleted?

I thought you wanted to get rid of the folder and its contents?
Setting the deleted item retension period to zero won't get rid of any
active items -- that's what I suggested setting the folder age limits
for.

Rich,
sorry I do want to get rid of the items, but i mis-understood what setting i needed to change. I have now set the "Age limit for replicas (days)" to 1 day. Is that what you meant?

Yes, it is.

Only the most extreme, I'm afraid. If you can, remove all the OTHER
replicas from the PF store (replicate them to another PF store). Then
dismount the PF database and remove the edb file. You can then replace
the replicas from the other PF store.
A call to MS would be in oder if that's impractical (or too scary).
