Cannot remove Exchange 2003
I keep getting the error:"One or more users currently use a mailbox store on this server. These users must be moved to a mailbox store on a different server or be mail disabled before uninstalling this server"I have followed http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924170 and no mailboxes exist other than:- SystemMailbox - Microsoft DSA - SMTP - Microsoft System Attendant But it still displays the error when trying to remove. I don't really want to perform a manual uninstall with the risk of damaging our live Exchange configuration.Any ideas?

Hi Mike,Do you have any Exchange 5.5 server in your environment? Looks like Microsoft DSA is creating problem, it is used by Site Replication Service of Exchange 5.5. You need to move SRS to another server first before removing Exchange server, check below article for moving SRS.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/282108If this is your first Exchange 2003 server then you can refer below article for other services to consider...http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822931Amit Tank || MVP - Exchange || MCITP - Exchange 2007 || http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

Hi Amit,We don't have a 5.5 system. Its possible we had one in the organization before and it could have left something behind? Also the Exchange Server I am trying to remove is 1 of 2 Exch2003 machines. I have migrated all the offline address books and free busy data to Exchange 2007.

Hi,Please use ADSI Edit tool, then expand Configuration, expand Configuration, DC=XXX, DC=com, then expand CN=Services, expand CN=Microsoft Exchange, expand CN=First Organization, expand CN=Administrative Groups, expand CN=First Administrative Group, expand CN=Servers, locate the server that will be removed, expand CN=InformationStore, Locate the certain store, right click it, select Properties, find homeMDBBL value, checkwhether mailboxes there? If not exists, I suggest we follow the below link to manual remove Exchange server 2003.http://support.microsoft.com//kb/833396ThanksAllen

Hi,Yes, Exchange uninstallation process takes care about all these listed mailboxes but it still gives error then you may need to remove the server manually. From your post looks like this Exchange 2003 is last legacy server and other than that you have one Exchange 2007 server. In this case I strongly suggest you to follow all the required steps of below article and instead of uninstalling, remove it manually when that step comes while following it.
