Cannot uninstall Exchange 2003
We have a server running Exchange 2003. It used to be an SBS server. A Microsoft transition disk was used to bring the server up to a full version of Windows Server 2003. We have also installed an Exchange 2007 server (separate box) and transitioned all mail responsibilities to it. The only thing I need to do is un-install Exchange 2003. I have done every step except the un-install. Here is the issue. When I go to the Add/Remove Programs control panel on the old SBS server, neither SBS nor Exchange are listed so I cant uninstall Exchange. I need to get rid of this Exchange instance so I can have a pure 2007 environment.
How do I get rid of this Exchange 2003 instance?

I assume that you have followed below article before removing SBS Exchange 2003 server. How to Remove the Last Legacy Exchange Server from an Organizationhttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb288905.aspxWell, you need to select Windows Small Business Server in Add/Remove program and select remove for Exchange server as per below image.http://www.msexchange.org/img/upl/image007a1164813850531.JPGIf you can not see Windows Small Business Server in Add/Remove program then insert SBS installation disks and run SBS setup and select the same option to remove Exchange.Amit Tank | MVP - Exchange | MCITP:EMA MCSA:M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

Thanks for responding. I did follow the instruction in the Last Legacy Server KB article. When I try to run the SBS installer, I get the following error: Attempting to install a version earlier than the current version. The installer will not proceed. This is probably because the box is a full-fledged Windows Server 2003 box thanks to the transition disk. I also tried to run the transition disk installer and it failed with an error that it can only be run on a system running SBS 2003. I seem to be stuck. Any ideas?

Please insert SBS CD 2 which contains exchange, and go to the exchanges exe file in the I386 folder, see if you can use it to uninstall the exchange
If the CD still not works for you, please follow the procedure in KB 833396 to remove the exchange 2003

Thanks James. No luck on the Exchange installer, but the KB article looks like it will do the trick.
