Change a User to a Different Mailbox
Hello All, I have a user that has a mailbox. What I need to do is create a new mailbox for this user and move all of his mailbox data from his old mailbox to this new mailbox. What is the best way to accomplish this? Thank you in advance.

Depends on what version of Exchange you are using. For Exchange 2000/2003, Exmerge is your best option. For Exchange 2007/2010, Import-Mailbox and Export-Mailbox. For Exchange 2010, the user doing the exporting and importing will need to be given the Mailbox Import Export Managment Role.Tim Harrington - Catapult Systems - http://HowDoUC.blogspot.com

Oops sorry about that, it is Exchange 2007. Okay, so my best bet is to go ahead and create a new mailbox, then use Export-Mailbox, Import-Mailbox to move the data from the old mailbox to the new mailbox then point the user to the new mailbox?

A user can only be connected to one mailbox at a time. I would export the data from the current mailbox. The disconnect the user from the old mailbox. Create a new mailbox and attach the user and then import the data in the new mailbox. All the importing/exporting can be done on the backend, so really you can set up the new mailbox under a temp user account to import the data into and then attach the real user to the new mailbox.Tim Harrington - Catapult Systems - http://HowDoUC.blogspot.com

Tuck, if you run into any issues with Import/Export check out Lucid8's DigiScope http://www.lucid8.com/product/digiscope.asp since it has a robust GUI and can open both Offline EDB's and Online Production Information stores so that you can browse, search, export, or import granular information as desired.
