Change default From address

Hi everyone!

Does anyone know how to change default From address? The account has main address and an additional address added. By default the main address is selected as default sending address. How do I change it to use additional address as default? Thank you for your answers!

What kind of account are you talking about, eg POP3, IMAP or Exchange?

If it's an Exchange account then that is controlled at the server end so you'd need to speak to your ISP to get the account updated to change the default.

If it's POP3/IMAP then you can change that within the account settings in Outlook. Go to File, Account Settings, Account Settings..., Change..., and then update the E-mail Address entry to the one you want to be used by default.

Note, I'm assuming you mean you have a single mailbox configured in Outlook since you mention having an additional address added, however you also mention it being default which sounds like you have two setup and you're trying to change which one is used by default. If that's the case, rather than selecting Change in the Account Settings window, you simply select the account you want to be default and then click "Set as Default". Outlook will then default to using that mailbox when creating new messages etc.

I am talking about exchange. This is only one account but it has access to other shared email that a lot of other people are using. When creating a new email you have options to send from default account or on behalf of shared account. I want to be able to set that *on behalf of* email address as default new/reply address.

Thanks for clarifying. In that case, if the other mailbox is added to Outlook as an additional mailbox (eg within the settings of your main mailbox) then it's not possible to make that the default with that configuration.

What you could do is setup that additional mailbox as a distinct mailbox in Outlook, so rather than being added as an additional mailbox it's a separate mailbox listed in your Outlook accounts. Add it like you would with any other email account, but you'd use your existing mailboxes login details to authenticate to it. Then and only then can you choose that second mailbox to be the default.
