Change of namespace and External URLs
Is it possible to have multiple external URLs linked in Exchange 2007? Scenario is an organisation wants to change its name. Currently they use say mail.company.com to access externally over OWA etc so they have all the CAS external URLs (autodiscover, EWS etc) referencing this name. If they change the name so that the Primary SMTP becomes newcompany.com so they now access as mail.newcompany.com, is it possible to have the CAS URLs linked to both existing and new so that access can be tested under both namespaces ahead of a switch over?

Hi,That is possible, you can create the A record mail.newcompany.com to point to the Exchange 2007's CAS, then implement the Autodiscover SRV record for Outlook users. The key point is you should include the new name in the Subject Alternative Name of the certificate.ThanksAllen

Watch out for this with Outlook Anywhere:When you setting up Outlook Anywhere in the client, if you choose to enable the "mutual authentication" option then you cannot use one of the alternative names on the certificate - you must use the primary common name. For most people this shouldn't be a problem, particularly if you follow the recommendation to put the most common name that will be used (the URL used for OWA) in as the common name and the other URLs (auto discover, the server's FQDN and real name) as additional names. However if you have used SAN/UC certificates to support multiple domains on the same server, then it could cause you a problem. The answer of course is to disable that option. Outlook Anywhere will continue to work correctly without that option enabled, although users may get authentication prompts. The most likely scenario where you would disable that option is when hosting, so the clients are likely to be off your domain anyway. Hi,Sorry for delay, I'm okay with adding the A record in DNS, what I'm not clear on is how you go about asetting the additional external URLs for the web services. In the past I've used the set-allvdirs.ps1 script to set both ethe internal and external URLs to mail.company.com. Is it possible to add additional URLs so you have both mail.company.com and mail.newcompany.com with set-webservicesvirtualdirectory or am I reading too much in to this as both the old and new names will appear on the same certificate?

Hi,That is impossible to set two urls for the web services. There is no need to set the new domain in the web services. You can still access the previous name mail.company.com to get the web services as long as the certificate name is matched from the user of the newcompany.com after succeeding contact Autodiscover service.ThanksAllen
