Changed Email Domain - Auto Reply on old addresses Options
We are to change our email domain address from @domain1.co.uk to @domain2.co.uk and are using Exchange 2007. Is there a way to automatically reply to email that is sent to the @domain1.co.uk letting them know that our email domain has changed to @domain2.co.uk so they can change their records? It would be nice to do this from the server so the users don't have to worry about it.

This question comes up almost on a weekly basis and the answer from everyone is this. Do not do this. Do this instead:- Set the new SMTP address space as the primary but leave the old one there as the secondary. All mail being sent out will originate from the new domain but people on the outside will still be able to initiate messages to the old addresses. Any replies to those messages will be from the new address. You will then create a HT rule, probably tagged onto the top of your disclaimer that the domain has changed and recipients should update their address books. Auto replies will get you into all sorts of trouble. If someone gets an automated reply to a message he sent you could end up with confusion, a message loop or worse. Just reply on the new domain being primary, leave the old one registered for a couple more years and use the HT/Disclaimer. "marcelojr" wrote in message news:6d1f779c-a983-4fc6-8ac0-af41792f63f5...
