I client wanted to change their site host server.
I created a new email account on the new server with the same email address as the old email address, example: eg@eg.com
I set up Outlook to find emails with this address on the new server, as well as checking the old server for emails. Once the DNS repointed I removed the old email account.
Problems: In the Outlook 2010 window, the system created a folder called eg(1)@eg.com, and under that added sent and trash folders.
It also left the folder list for the old, original email address eg@eg.old in the Outlook folder window.
Since then the user is having server connectivity problems with Outlook now, a significant increase in spam, and when he classified a new spam email as junk, the junk email disappears, it does not end up in the Junk folder (which is a folder under the original old email and cannot be moved), and, apparently the sender email address does not end up in the blocked email list.
I went into the email accounts a changed the visible name of the new email account to eg@eg.com, but this made no change in the folder hierarchy.
He wants his functioning email junk folder back, wants to get rid of the newer folder list and have only one account folder list, wants me to make sure that no emails are lost in the process, and I fear I've dug a deep hole that I'm having a problem getting out of.
Any suggestions would be most welcome, and, as well, if I could be pointed to a "how to" document telling me how to relocate the same email address to a new server in future, that would be great.
