Hi, I am getting ready to setup a third party email archiving program for our Exchange 2003 environment and have a concern. The following is the setup: One Front End running OWA and it is a GC (don't shoot me I didn't set this up)One Back End Two DC's both running DNS and one is a GC the other is not.The archiving servers will be running 2008 and will be connecting to a 2008 SQL cluster. The problem is the four servers making up the AD/Exchange domain are on what we call the legacy network (old). The archive server and SQL cluster are located on the "new Vlan" which do not "speak" to the legacy network. The network engineer wants to put the current AD/Exchange environment on the new Vlan which means changing the IP's for those four servers. We do not use WINS.We use DHCP and DNS via Linux.The AD is used only for Exchange authentication. What are all of the ramifications of changing the IP's on the four AD/Exchange servers?MRR

Hi, If this is a domain controller or a global catalog, usually it is not recommended to change the IP address since we would hassle to manually change all SRV records in DNS. I would say it’s OK, but not recommended. Regarding more about this, I suggest you write post in our Windows Server forum if you have further questions. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/category/windowsserver/ From Exchange perspective, the IP addresses can be changed safely if the Exchange servers are not clustered. DNS records need to be updated with the new IP Address information If this is also an Exchange mail server, please check if there are any other Exchange server/SMTP server which configured the IP address of this server as the smart host server. If that’s the case, we need to change the smart host IP on other Exchange servers. Thanks, Elvis
