Changing the User Alias under the Exchange General Tab in AD
"Hi All, We are changing the name of our company so I need to change the email address of over 500 accounts and obviously do not want to touch each account.. We are running on a AD 2003 network and currently running Exchange server 2003.. I am attempting to use the ADModify tool to change the users email address but the tool automatically wants to grab from the Alias under the exchange general tab, which is currently on most accounts their current email address.. ( I did not set this) So I don't want to go back and touch each account to change the "Alias" to first initial firstname then last name so that the tool will create the correct email address.. Can anyone tell me how to change the "Alias" section at a mass if not how to tell the tool to user first initial firstname and then full lastname @domain.com ?? Hope this is clear to everyone.. Thanks!!

If I understood correctly then I think you can use reciepient policy in Exchange 2003 to create a new email address for all users with new domain email address. Take a look at here for more detail. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996143(EXCHG.65).aspx http://www.computerperformance.co.uk/exchange2003/exchange2003_recipient_policy.htm

Thanks for the reply.. I would love to do it that way but the problem is were in the banking industry and there are actually three banks under the same holding company.. We are all on the same local domain but have three different bank names.. So I can't do it over the whole domain.. Also at this point we just want the new address as the secondary account so we can receive mail at the new address but not go out as the new one until the official name change date.. Any other help would be much appreciated.. Thank you!

I think while creating new recipient policy you can select both of the things. Choose to create a secondary smtp address instead of primary. You can filter the users by selecting different attributes, if you have any common attributes set on those users, or all users whose mailboxes are on the particulate exchange server/mailbox store.
