I am hoping that somebody can help me understand how something works so I can better
understand how the command works. I know that this is a Exchange 2013 forum, I am running Exchange 2010 but the command should be similar and the basics should not have changed much<o:p></o:p>

When I delete a mailbox the mailbox then goes into the disconnect mailbox, in 30 days
or about the mailbox is deleted (I believe you need a full backup also)<o:p></o:p>

So here is my question is the mailbox deleted or is it still in the system and you need to
run the Clean-mailboxdatabase command to really remove/delete the mailbox?<o:p></o:p>

In reading this command it seems like even after the mailbox is deleted the mailbox is not
really deleted. It was my impression that after you delete the mailbox and it
is then held and then deleted after a set time.<o:p></o:p>

I have seen the links already but as I said or asked if I go to the EMC and into mailboxes
and delete a mailbox and then wait said time and the mailbox is then removed
from the disconnected mailbox is the mailbox then deleted or do you still have
to run the clean-mailbox command to really delete the mailbox from the
database.<o:p></o:p>

No, you do not need to run any other command untill unless you want to remove the disconnected mailbox immediately else that mailbox will be deleted after expiration of deleted mailbox retention period.

See What happened When   you delete or disable  a mailbox :

Under normal circumstances,  a mailbox is marked as disconnected immediately after when you disable or remove the mailbox using Disable-Mailbox or Remove-Mailbox  respectively  and it will go to Disconnected mailbox area, if you have set up the deletion settings (By default  30 days ) of Mailbox database.

If you used the Disable-Mailbox cmdlet or the Remove-Mailbox cmdlet while the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service was stopped, or if a mailbox was disabled by an external means other than the Disable-Mailbox cmdlet or Remove-Mailbox cmdlet,  for this scenario you may be not able to view the disable or removed mailbox in Disconnected mailbox area.  

So to view this disable mailbox or removed-mailbox  , you may have to run  the Clean-MailboxDatabase cmdlet to scan for disconnected mailboxes against the particular Mailbox database.
