Cleaning messages out from Manages Folders issue
I have a rule set to purge messages from the deleted Items after 21 days. I noticed that a use who has their mail forwarded and then deleted by the server was not having messages purged from their deleted items when we logged into their OWA.
When I ran a command to see in powershell to get their mailboxstatistics it showed that all the messages in totalitemcount but none in the deleteditemcount. That would answer why they are not being purged. Users that delete from Outlook appear
to be going to the deleteditemcount.
Any ideas are appreciated.

DeletedItemCount is a count of the items in the (recoverable) dumpster, not items in the Deleted Items folder.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

Hi,
How did
you create your rule?
I think you could use retention policy to delete items in the deleted folder.

I do have a retention policy as well as I created the rule under the Managed Folders/Deleted Items to Permanently Delete the messages after 21 days. The messages are not being purged.
I am seeing this in the event viewer so the cleanyup process appears to be doing something.
Clenaup of items past retention date for Item Recovery is complete for "First Storage Group\Mailbox Database".
Start 1917 items; 166339 Kbytes
End: 163939 Kbytes.
I do not see anything in the log about the purge from Managed Folders. Should I?-Ben
