Combining conversations in Outlook 2010

Hi there,

Firstly apologies if this is not the correct form, (since it is more a user issue than a developer one).

Background

  • I have rules setup to move e-mails from my in-box to a separate folder in a different pst file.
  • The files from certain e-mail addresses are move to a project folder.
  • Depending on the mail content I then manually shift them to specific sub folders of the project folder.

Here is the issue

When I move a new e-mail to the sub folder it does not recognise it as the same conversation as e-mails already present, even though the subject is exactly the same.

Setup

  • Office Professional Plus 2010 Version 14.0.7015.1000 (32 bit)

Thanks for your help and time,

Vincent.

Hi melon,

Thank you for that.

How do I check for conversations in other PST files.

I can only see the ones in my profile inbox.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Vincent,

If the .pst file is not in your current Profile, please open it in your current Profile, it will appear in MFCMAPI then.

To open the .pst file, start Outlook, click File -> Open -> Open Outlook Data File -> Browse to the location of the file, select the .pst file and click Open button.

Then the .pst file will display on the navigation pane, also you will be able to find it in MFCMAPI. After checking the Conversation ID, you can close it in Outlook by right clicking and Close.

Hi Melon,

I can see the pst File listed in the Main window of MFCMAPI.

Where do I go from there, (MFCMAPI seems a powerful tool, if you know what your doing - which I don't ;).

The conversations I am looking for are in a sub-folder of the pst.

When I find them, how do I change the conversation ID?

Thanks for your help,

Vince.

Melon, sure I can. VHalpenny wants to combine messages. You can't edit Conversation ID in easy way. This Conversation ID column in MFCMAPI is a computed one. It takes a piece of PR_CONVERSATION_INDEX. Unfortunately there is no easy way to combine messages in conversations in Ou
