Company merger-- how to rename acquired company's email address while still remaining seperate entities?
This is a question in regards to Exchange, though I suppose some directory services will be involved. Our company, Denbury, recently acquired another business named Encore. The eventual plan is to absorb Encore into Denbury, but for now both businesses will operate as separate entities. Management wants to give all Encore employees an “@denbury.com” email address, retaining their old “@encore.com” address. They also want the “@denbury.com” addresses to be set as their default SMTP addresses. Denbury: · Server 2008 Native domain mode, single domain, single forest. · Mix of Outlook 2003 and 2007 users · Running a mixed Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2007 environment. (Exchange 2003 Enterprise running on Server 2003 Standard and Exchange 2007 Enterprise running on Server 2008 Enterprise, clustered.) Encore: · Server 2003 domain, not sure of the mode yet · Majority of users on Outlook 2007 · Encore is running Exchange 2003 on Server 2003. My question: how to best accomplish this? Obviously, we need to establish a trust between domains and set up a routing policy in Exchange, but beyond that I could use some guidance. We are not using any Edge Transport servers, so using the Address Rewrite Agent isn’t an option.

Matthew,You can also do it like this:- mark the denbury.com domain as non-authoritative on your Exchange servers- create a send connector which has the denbury.com as domain and the exchange in the other company as smart host- add the denbury.com domain to the exchange 2003 of the other company and create a policy which assigns it- create mailcontacts of all you employees in the forest of the new company and assign an unique e-mail address for example denbury.local or something- create a smtp connector which will send mail for the denbury.local domain to the Exchange server of denbury.com- add this address to the users in your forest also and ensure you add is as accepted domainIt's a little bit complicated but this will work.Regards,JohanExchange-blog: www.johanveldhuis.nl

Johan,How about-- If we install Exchange 2007 on Encore side, and use a cross-forest connector between the Exchange 2007 portions of Denbury and Encore?

Hi,Could be an option but if you want to have the users to use the denbury.com to send mail the previous mentioned method may be better.Regards,JohanExchange-blog: www.johanveldhuis.nl
