Completed with error - when trying mailbox move
Started getting the following error message when trying to move mailboxes (on different mailbox databases, not just a particular one). Tried to search but the articles I found were for Exchange 2003 and reference a different error. We are using Exchange 2010. The error I am getting is Warning: Failed to reset the target mailbox after the move. Error details: An Active Directory error 0x51 occurred when trying to check the suitability of server 'HQ-DC1.domain.uk'. Error: 'Active directory response: The LDAP server is unavailable.' --> The LDAP server is unavailable. The move does actually seem to complete. The only error that I see in the move log is this 22/10/2012 12:59:54 [HQ-HUB1] Failed to delete the Sync state from the target mailbox after the move. Attempt 1/1. Error details: SuitabilityDirectoryException An Active Directory error 0x51 occurred when trying to check the suitability of server 'HQ-DC1.domain.uk'. Error: 'Active directory response: The LDAP server is unavailable.' --> The LDAP server is unavailable. at Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Directory.SuitabilityVerifier.CreateConnectionAndBind(String fqdn, Int32 portNumber, NetworkCredential credential) at Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Directory.SuitabilityVerifier.IsServerSuitable(String fqdn, Boolean isGlobalCatalog, NetworkCredential credential, String& writableNC, LocalizedString& errorMessage) However this server is definately available, and all connectivity tests from Exchange to this server seem to be fine. Am I missing something?

Hi Are you moving this mailbox in Exchange 2010 between two mailbox databases ? Do you have admin permission to both of databases ? Yes, between two Exchange 2010 mailbox databases. I have the highest level of access possible and have been doing many many moves over the last few months with no issues. It only seems to have started recently and it happens either from my computers EMC or from a server EMC

It could be that your admin profile has issues. I've seen it before. Login as another admin and delete your profile. Login with your admin account and try again. Thank you. Please Vote As Helpful and/or Mark As Answer if this post helped you.

Hello, Are two databases on the same exchange 2010 or different exchange 2010? If they are on different exchange2010, please verify two Exchange 2010 server in the same site, same Active Directory. Please run netdiag to check that Domain Controllers are all able to 'speak' LDAP. Please try to run nltest /dclist from both Exchange Server to get the list of the Domain Controllers. Please try to use get-ExchangeServer -status to check the Domain Controllers. Please check if there is any error in application log.Cara Chen TechNet Community Support

Hi Cara netdiag shows a pass on the LDAP tests on each DC nltest /dclist on each exchange server shows the correct DCs get-exchangeserver -status shows all exchange servers with the correct roles, all in the same AD site. thanks EDIT: Just done some more moves, 5 of them, and all completed with the same error. On checking the logs, it's all the same. 23/10/2012 10:56:50 [HQ-SRV-HUB1] Move has completed and final clean up has started. 23/10/2012 10:56:50 [HQ-SRV-HUB1] Source mailbox 'Primary (93f2d468-699a-4831-870a-36432b1a4d91)' was successfully cleaned up after the move. 23/10/2012 10:56:51 [HQ-SRV-HUB1] Failed to reset the target mailbox after the move. Attempt 1/6. Error details: SuitabilityDirectoryException An Active Directory error 0x51 occurred when trying to check the suitability of server 'HQ-DC1.domain.uk'. Hello, From the errors you get, the mailbox might already have been moved to the target database, but some related AD attributes weren't updated. Please check if you enable the permission inheritance for the on-premises object. 1.Log on domain controller and open "Active Directory Users and Computers" 2.Choose View - > Ensure "Advanced Features" is checked. 3.Select the problem user Account and right-click "Properties" 4.Select the "Security Tab" and click "Advanced" 5.Select the "Include inheritable permissions from the objects parent checkbox and click OK. 6.Wait a few minutes in order to Active Directory replication. Hi Cara Checked and on my account the "include inheritable permission....." box was unchecked. Checked this box, and noticed that many Exchange related perms were added. Waited 5 mins or so, and started a new move on my account. The move gets to 99% then waits on "Completing". Outloook changes between "Disconnected" / "Trying to connect...." for a few minutes, then failed again with the same error. Happens on any mailbox regardless of who tries to move it

Hello, Please run dcdiag to check if AD run normally. Please run EXBPA against exchange health check. Please check if the objects LegacyExchangeDN is correct. If there are some errors in application log, please post event id and event source.Cara Chen TechNet Community Support
