Hi guys, I have a group of users that i need to have routed via a smart host while the rest of the organization will continue to send out via a normal SMTP connector. I know I will need two SMTP connectors; one that will route via a smart host and the other willroute viaDNS. What I need to know is how do i specifiy which SMTP connector a user will use? Example: joesoap@abc.comforwards via smart host SMTP connector josope@abc.com forwards via DNS SMTP connector etc Any info will be appreciated.

Hi nick: which exchange version are you running in your production enviornment? i assume your exchange version is exchange 2k3, if it's error, pls free time to tell me; on the other hand , how do you place exchange server? different site or single site; if it locates single site, i think it can't configure to diliver mail to smtp connector by account name? it will cause lots of NDR; if there is anything error, pls let me know,thanks; -jack

Hi Nick, SMTP Connector is used to route mails by domain name, I don't think so you can configure it per user basis.

Hi, Of course, this issue can be resolved by creating two connectors. Before going on, I would like to explain the process of selecting connector when sending the email. For external mail delivery, routing uses the information in the link state table to first evaluate the connector with the address space that most closely matches the destination, and then routing evaluates the cost. For the two connectors have the same address space, the connector with the lowest cost value will be selected. However, assume that restrictions exist on the connector, and the restriction permits only users of the group to send through this connector, routing will fail over to the other one connector with higher cost value. Thus, in your situation, I assume you created two connectors, one is test1, the other one is test2, and the group named is group1. The test1 is responsible for sending the emails come from group1. We need to first keep the two connectors with the same address space, set the cost value of test1 as 2, test2 as 1. Then right click test2, in the Delivery Restrictions tab, click Add button under Reject messages from: Input group1, click OK. After that, I believe your issue can be worked out. Thanks Allen
