Configuring exchange server 2003
I recently installed windows server 2003 enterprise and I installed exchange server 2003. I tried configuring an outlook account through exchange and I got the following error message: "The connection to Microsoft Exchange Server is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action." Then it displays the exchange server name in a dialog box and ask to check name. When I click ok, it says the name cannot be resolved. All the services has started. I don't know where to go from here. Could someone plz assist.

Did you enable the user for a mailbox using AD Users and Computers? Right-click on the user in AD and select Exchange Tasks...this will allow you to create a mailbox. You will have to wait around 15 minutes for the replication service to initialize the mailbox. Can you log into the mailbox from OWA?Tim Harrington - Catapult Systems - http://HowDoUC.blogspot.com

I just created an account for a user. I can't log into the mailbox. I am fairly new to this.

Yes, First need to check whether you have mailbox. if you have created then verify mail access thru OWA and outlook both so you can check if there is problem in outlook or from exchaneg side. Please post your outcome !!!!Anil

Please verify that the mailbox exists. Open Exchange System Manager, expand the server and storage group that you created the database in. Click on the Mailboxes node, you should see the users mailbox. If you don't then try to create the mailbox again for the user through AD Users and Computers -> Exchange Tasks.Tim Harrington - Catapult Systems - http://HowDoUC.blogspot.com

I did all that. The mailbox exist. I restarted all the services and I tried outlook again on a different machine and it worked, but I used the automatic settings for exchange server instead of the manual configuration. Between automatic configuration and manual configuration, which one is better to use?

You should be able to use either. I would choose automatic if it is configuring Outlook like you want.Tim Harrington - Catapult Systems - http://HowDoUC.blogspot.com

I would verify DNS is working. Try hitting OWA via IP and log in with the user. Mark Morowczynski|MCT| MCSE 2003:Messaging, Security|MCITP:EMA 2K7,EDA Win 7,ES,SA,EA|MCTS:Windows Mobile Admin|Security+|http://almostdailytech.com
