Connect a Mailbox from Recovery Storage Group
Hey, I have restored the Mailbox Store from a tape backup and mounted the database into a Recovery Storage Group on the Exchange Server 2007. The Mailbox which I need to restore is listed under Disconnected Mailboxen within the recovery storage group. Therefore I cannot connect the Mailbox. See error message: Error: The mailbox that you specified resides in a recovery storage group. Mailboxes that reside in a recovery storage group cannot be connected to user accounts. How can I restore the data of this user ? Christian

First reconnect the mailbox or create a new one for the user because you need a production mailbox into which to restore the content. Then use the Restore-Mailbox cmdlet or the Microsoft Exchange Troubleshooting Assistant's Merge or Copy Mailbox Contents option. The Restore-Mailbox cmdlet has more options for selecting content to merge into the production mailbox. -- Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems." . You can also use the restore-mailbox command. Eg. you can restore the items within the RSG-mailbox in the user's productive mb into a folder: Restore-Mailbox -rsgmailbox <<username of the rsgmailbox>> -RSGDatabase <<RSGdatabase>> -id <<username>> -TargetFolder Restore

Won´t work - something with my syntax... User: Mark Miller resides in the RSG --> Recovery Storage Group\Mailbox Database2 Also I have a recovery Mailbox : Alias: Recover --> resides in: First Storage Group\Mailbox Database I try this: [PS] C:\Windows\System32>Restore-Mailbox cmdlet Restore-Mailbox at command pipeline position 1 Supply values for the following parameters: Identity: Mark Miller RSGDatabase: HRDEESNEXCP01\Recovery Storage Group\Mailbox Database2 Restore-Mailbox : The specified user "Mark Miller " could not be found. At line:1 char:15 + Restore-Mailbox <<<< [PS] C:\Windows\System32> What is the correct syntax for my case to recover Mark Miller to the Recover Mailbox. Why don't you enter all the parameters at the command line? You can get help for the restore-mailbox command: get-help restore-mailbox This works also with all other PS cmd-lets. restore-mailbox restores the mailboxdata from the RSG into a specific mailbox. This mailbox can be the productive mailbox of the affected user or eg. your own. So, if you want to restore the mb of Mark Miller into his mailbox, he needs logically an ad-account and an exchange mailbox. But you can also restore it into your mb. The command would look like this: restore-mailbox -rsgmailbox "Mark Miller" -RSGDatabase "HRDEESNEXCP01\Recovery Storage Group\Mailbox Database2" -id <<your_mailboxname>> -targetfolder "Restore of Mark Miller" But: you have to activate the restore option for the mailboxdatabase, in which the mailbox resides, that you want to use as target for the restore-mailbox command: Set-MailboxDatabase -id <<mailboxdatabase_name>> -AllowFileRestore $True You should disable this setting afterwards.

Lucid8's DigiScope http://www.lucid8.com/product/digiscope.asp can do all of this for you i.e. it can crack open Exchange 2010, 2007, 2003, 2000 or 5.5 EDB's so that you can then Browse, Search, Export or Recover Mailboxes or granular level data of all types into a Live Exchange 2010, 2007, 2003 or 2000 Server. Does lots of other cool things as well so check it out Troy Werelius Lucid8

If you have problem with restore-mailbox cmdlet then you can use export-mailbox cmdlet to copy mail into any existing mailbox and later can move. How to Export Mailbox Data: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb266964(EXCHG.80).aspxAnil
