Consolidating all Outlook Related Files

I have a number of VMs that I use for testing and development.   They all have a version of Outlook installed (2007-2013).  I would like to setup a single folder on the host machine that has all of the Outlook related files and point each of the VMs to it.  I will only have Outlook open on a single VM at a time.

I have identified the registry entries for account definitions so I can easily define my email accounts in any of the VMs.  I need to know all of the registry entries that point to the location of Outlook files (i.e. pst, xml, etc.)

I have tried following the instructions for moving Outlook files but when I change the default pst file I lose all of my folder shortcuts and that is just moving it on the same VM.  (Where are Outlook folder shortcuts defined?)

So what registry entries do I need to export from VM one that I can import into VM two to enable Outlook to find ALL of its files and to provide the same look and feel as far as possible.

The target endpoint is to be able to build a new VM, install Office (including Outlook) and then run import a registry file that will completely setup Outlook the way it is on other VMs and have it use the same

Hi,

here you can find which files save what for outlook 2010 http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook-help/where-does-microsoft-outlook-2010-save-my-information-and-configurations-HP010354943.aspx

And also save "%AppData%\Microsoft\Office\ol*.officeUI"

For the registry the following should save the other configuration of outlook 2010:

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Common

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\Windows Messageing Subsystem\

Some configuration of Outlook in the registry is also used by other Office Parts like Word. That's why the key "Common" is also necessary. Maybe you have to watch for the SID when you use different VMs or user.

For the other versions of Outlook (2007, 2013) it should be similar.

I hope it helps.

I have gone through all of the suggested registry entries and can only find two items that point to the location of the Outlook control files:

C:\Users\<userid>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook\offitems.log
C:\Users\<userid>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook\outitems.log

I need a way to tell Outlook to look for all of its data files (.xlm, etc) in a shared folder on a mapped drive.  That way if I do change something in on VM it will automatically appear in the others.  I can't do this for email account definitions as they are stored in the registry and thus have to be imported on each VM.

I think I am going to try putting a hard link in place of C:\Users\<userid>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook that points to S:\Outlook and see if that covers most of the problems.

The simplest solution would be to point the Documents folder to a shared home drive.  Unfortunately, each VM has different versions of software on it.  Things like the user's start menu would be a problem.
