Content Indexing Files...can I delete them?
I have content indexing enabled on two of my storage groups. Some of the index files were generated when I installed Exchange 2007 with sp1 months ago. I have noticed those files have not had their modified dates changed since the install and some of them size wise are in excess of 400MB. I have dozens of them. Can I delete these files as they are taking up unneeded space on my LUN for these storage groups.
Thanks,
Alex

If you are not using content indexing, you should be able to delete these without any problems. I usually keep content indexing on because it is a pretty low overhead service and certainly speeds up searching through the mailbox database. But it does not hurt to disable it and delete the files.Jim McBee - Blog - http://mostlyexchange.blogspot.com

Hi,
1. Go to the Mailbox Storage Folder2. Delete the Folder Starts with CatalogData Followed by a Long Hexadecimal Number ( Ex.CatalogData-9727b8d0-aa68-49f5-b4dd-..)
Note: c:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Mailbox\First Storage Group

Does anyone know what this folder contains? Due to disk space issue, I am planning to move all the mailboxes off a database, delete the database and transacton log folders, remount the database to create a blank database, and move the mailboxes back. I have
been testing it in our lab and it is working fine.
I am just wondering if it is safe to delete the following folders when the database and logs folders are being deleted:
(1) CatalogData with a string of hex numbers;
(2) IngnoredLogs
(3) incseedDebug
(4) incseedInspect
(5) inspector
I really appreciate if someone can provide me some insight.
Thanks,
KY
