Couple VSS questions
I don't have much backup experience with Exchange, and plan on doing VSS, but have a couple questions before doing so.Since SP1, streaming backups have been disabled by default, although I know that a registry modification can be done to re-enable.1. I know that backup exec 11d does VSS. But is this VSS only on the stores? If I want to back up things like custom OWA pages, message tracking logs, etc., will this do VSS as well or will I have to make the registry modifications to allow for this?2. When doing a streaming backup restore, if a Recovery Storage Group is created, the backup can be pointed to the original storage group and the Information Store redirects the restore to the Recovery Storage Group. Is this the same for VSS or with a VSS restore, do I have to specifically point it to the Recovery Storage Group? Thanks.

1. You'd do a normal file-level backup for non-Information Store backups as you would for any server. 2. Create the RSG and then in BE 11d there is an option to redirect the backup to the RSG. Simple as that.

1. So will these file-level backups still us the Exchange VSS writer so I don't have to enable the streaming backup that was disabled in SP1?2. So i take it that because you have to enable it with BE 11d, the architecture in VSS won't have the Information Store automatically redirect it to the RSG as it would with a streaming restore.
