Create mailbox
Hello, Maybe I am going about this all wrong but we have always created mailboxes when we created new users in AD. We have never had the ned for a mailbox without creating a user. Can I create a contact that has a mailbox (email address) under the domain? I tried to do this or so I thought. When I send an email to the contact I recieve an error from exchange saying
A configuration error in the e-mail system caused the message to bounce between two servers or to be forwarded between two recipients. Contact your administrator.I'm not sure... No one has this email address and there is only one server setup.Any help would be great,Ernst.

I am sure some has stamped with same email address. What you need to do is Open ADUC -> Select your Domain ->click on Find Select Entire Directory under "In " section and under Find section select Custom Search Click on Advanced buton below Custom Search under Enter LDAP Query type as below Proxyaddresses=smtp:"The email address of user in question"Vinod

Hi,
I am able to reproduce your issue on my lab . I would like to explain when you create a mail enabled contact or mail enabled user, no mailbox is created on the Exchange Server. As the email address for the user is authoritative domain, the Exchange considers that it is an internal email. Nevertheless, as no mailbox is created, the Exchange Server is not able to deliver the message. Therefore, the Exchange Server will generate the NDR message.
Please understand the difference of mailbox enabled user and mail enabled user:
