Creating MX record in Diffrent DNS for Exchange Server Service
Hi team I have a Public DNS with abctest.com hosted in my own network. We also have exchange server setup in HMC and MX record is mail.abctest.com which is pointed to 122.x.x.201. Exchange email setup is working fine for preregisterted domain and newly registerted domain in our DNS. Same time we have one more sister concern with xyz.com with a diffrent public dns. Now they want to use our exchange server services. They have their own Primary zone in own dns. We are able to generate the email id for xyz.com in our exchnage using HMC but how to point the MX record to 122.x.x.201. Is there any option or idea to create a MX record in Sister concern's dns and point to our MX record IP. Kindly suggest. Regards Suman B. Singh

Hi Suman, This should be straightforward enough. If you want mail sent to xyz.com sent to abctest.com server simply use the MX records you have for abctest.com and put these exact same records in the zyx.com zone. So if your MX record shows mail.abctest.com, just put this in the zone for xyz.com Shaun

Hi Shaun Let me type in more detail. Suppose I have public dns and exchange server network (Its HMC) and there is pre-registered domain (Lets say yahoo.com), we simply create a company in exchange and mail boxes then we ask to update mx record with our information. Again with our DNS we can create a primary zone for new company and we can define its MX record. But the problem is that, company's primary zone and its records are in xyz.com and our mail exchanger (MX records) is in different dns zone Simply our sister concern want to use our exchange server fox email solutions but they ant to keep their DNS records with their own DNS server. Suman, I asume the following example as your current setup. You have one public IP (212.72.1.186) You have one exchange server and it is responsible for receiving mails for a domain named a.com For receiving incoming mails for a.com you have created one MX record on the a.com's public dns server. eg: 10 mail.a.com 212.72.1.186 ******************************************************************************* Now I am coming into your requirement. You wanted to use the same exchange server for receiving mails for another domain named b.com. If your requirement is correct you have to do the following things. If you are using exchange server 2003 you have to create a receipient policy on your server for receiving mails for b.com. If you are not using exchange server 2003 go to step 2 If you are using exchange server 2007 or 2010 you have to create b.com domian into the accepted domain list. Finally access b.com's public dns server and create a new mx record which points to your existing exchange server. eg: 10 mail.b.com 212.72.1.186 Regards, Santhosh Sivaraman
