Creating a Mixed Series Chart in PerformancePoint

The business has identified a need to be able to provide some custom formatting of some upcoming PerformancePoint reports, and wanted to see if anyone could provide some more information on 1.) whether what we need is even possible and 2.) if possible, how would one go about accomplishing it.

The first requirement is to be able to create a mixed series report, with dollar amounts on one y-axis and percentages on the second y-axis. I know this can be accomplished, but the chart uses a bar graph / line graph combination. The business would like it to only consist of two line graphs. Is that possible?

They would also like to choose the line colors and style for specific measures. I'm pretty sure that level of control isn't possible in PPS, but just wanted to confirm

Overall, how much formatting can be done within PerformancePoint? I've told the powers that be you are essentially not going to get nearly the amount of control you would get with Power Pivot in Excel or Reporting Services, but again, wanted to just confirm wht I'm sure is the case!

Thanks in advance!

With PPS analytical charts you can only do the bar (column) and line combination to get the dual axis style reports.

To get the control you are looking for you will need to use Excel or Reporting Services.  Probably want to go with Reporting Services so that you can have more control over the drill down which you will need to configure and setup on your own.

I was thinking that was the case, but wanted to just verify it.

Are there any plans in the future to enable line / line combination for mixed series? Also, can one alter the underlying style sheets - are there even style sheets in PPS?

Thanks!

As far as future plans to add a feature like that I have not heard of anything and would doubt that would happen.  ProClarity used to have that feature which was nice, but that never made it into PerformancePoint.

There are style sheets that you can take a look at and when you modify these it will be a global setting for all dashboards.  You can monitor and find the references in IE using F12.  The default path of PerformancePoint Services CSS files on the application server is %ProgramFiles%\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\14\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS\PPSWebParts.

Here is a FAQ you might find helpful:

Hi Dan,

Thanks for all great help that you give. I follow your blog and it is very informative.

In order to have 2nd y-axis, I added date to bottom axis and then % change followed by Sales to series. But 2nd y axis does not show up. I would appreciate if you could help me with that. Thanks
