Customizing the EMC with MMC
Hi all I run Win2K8 SP1 with MMC v3.0. I made an mmc and added the Exchange Management Console snap-in to it. I wish to customize this mmc so that Mailbox (which is located under Recipient Configuration) is the only thing users see when they open it. I run the mmc in author mode, right-click on Mailbox and choose "new window from here," then close the other window and save it. After that, I close the mmc and re-open it only to find that the original window that shows all tools has re-appeared. Am I doing something wrong? Is it not possible to customize the EMC in this way?

You should select User mode - limited access, single windows Creating Custom Exchange 2007 Management Consoles http://www.msexchange.org/articles_tutorials/exchange-server-2007/management-administration/creating-custom-exchange-2007-management-consoles.html Having said that, I have not managed to get this working with Exchange 2010.MCTS: Messaging | MCSE: S+M

MCTS: Messaging | MCSE: S+M Yeah, it'll work for 2007. But not for the 2010 EMC. Is it just not possible anymore? That would suck.

I couldn't get it to work for 2010, I think due to RBAC MMC was designed to not care whether it's there or not even if only in read view. I tried mucking with the MMC file but what I think happens is when MMC launches it does an RBAC check then MMC seems to load and initializes all the snap ins. Seems like a reasonable explanation. I just tried with Exchange 2010 RTM. Does not work there either.MCTS: Messaging | MCSE: S+M
