DNS Dynamic updating frequency for clients
I recently enabled aging and scavenging on our DNS environment. From what I read, client machines will only check in upon reboot or IP change. We do not use DHCP, all static IP's. On Windows XP machines I have the DHCP and DNS services
running as that is what i have come to understand is needed for XP to register with DNS properly. We do have a large mix of XP, Win 7, 2008 R2 and Windows 2003 in the environment.
After enabling DNS scavenging, I noticed that machines stated checking in and updating their time-stamps in the DNS console and they were never rebooted. I also see some machine are refreshing without being rebooted... How is this
possible? I am really confused.
