Database File Growth and Whitespace Usage
I currently have about 16GB of freespace on my primary Exchange database drive. According to my event log, I have about 44GB of whitespace in the database. In the past, I've seen a file size growth of anywhere from 2GB - 16GB in a month's time. Can I expect the database file to grow in size if I have 44GB of whitespace (assuming my users do not get/create over 44GB of email this month)? I'm just trying to determine under what circumstances I can expect the database file size to grow instead of using the whitespace.Thanks.Ray

Not in normal circumstances. it should not go like till the time you dont have really heavy users or number of users are running in couple of thousands. Now the the problem is, exchange DB will always grow and will never shrink , till the time you run offline defrag.Run exmon and see who is the culprit for this http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=9A49C22E-E0C7-4B7C-ACEF-729D48AF7BC9&displaylang=enSee if there is any performance issue http://support.microsoft.com/kb/919207Also , Look into Andy's post here http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/exchangesvradmin/thread/35fc53e2-10d8-4c4a-9b97-477c008c7532.Raj
