Dead Exchange server
Hi We have 5 Exchange servers in our site, all Exchange 2003 SP2. One of these (Exch1) is running old hardware and all the mailboxes have been moved to other servers pending decommision. Unfortunately, Exch1 died the other day - I am getting constant Blue screen errors. Couple of questions:i) I notice that there are mails queueing to Exch1, all with a recipient address of Exch1-IS@mydomain.com : Can I just delete these from the queues on other servers?ii) What's the recommended method to remove this server from the org? Any help appreciated!

This might be public folder replication traffic. This article describes whats involved with removing the 2003 server from the environment:http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Remove-Exchange-server-entire-Exchange-organization.html&http://support.microsoft.com/kb/833396&http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesvrdeploy/thread/ca4aa3c5-681a-4621-8db9-dc26e2f07f63/

If there's no hope ofe server back on-line so it can be safely uninstalled, goahead and delete the messages.>ii) What's the recommended method to remove this server from the org? Any help appreciated! The recommended way to do it is to get it back into an operationalstate and then uninstall Exchange. If that's not possible, try using the Exchange System Manager. Selectthe server and hit the delete key. That may work. Then again, it maynot. If there were public folder replicas on the failed server it maynot let you delete the server this way.---Rich MatheisenMCSE+I, Exchange MVP--- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP
