Dedicated hub for relay
I have exchange 2007 setup with 3 hub servers all in the same site/subnet, one of the hub servers is dedicated for ,ail relay by creating a receive connector and and start adding application and device to it What I want to do now is to stop normal users mail flow from hitting this dedicated relay server and instead to use the other 2 servers, how can I configure that without affecting the normal mail flow Thanks

Why? Your configuration seems to be less fault tolerant. Why not just let all servers do everything?Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

Hi, When you have multiple Hub Transport Servers in your Active Directory site, the Mailbox Servers keeps an internal list of all these Hub Transport Servers. The Mail Submission Service then Round Robins through this list as to notify a Hub Transport Server and to pick up the message from the Outbox. This way the Mailbox Server load balances between all available Hub Transport Servers in the Active Directory Site. And there is no method to control this behavior. I know why you are talking about here for dedicated HUB server, Its for too much load if i understand well. As ED said above, You should create receive connector in other two HUB server and use DNS record for round robin so if any HUB server unavailable then it will work with other HUB. The easy option is move that server to different AD site. Please keep in mind that By making one server dedicated for application relay, you have a risk of single point of failure. What i would suggest for application is relay share an alias (ex: relay.domain.com) which points to that specific HUB server. However create and manage the relay connector on all servers. on server failure you can easily switch to different server by updating the DNS. I was thinking about the same earlier, and later i dropped this plan of dedicated server for application relay- as i don’t see any benefit or it doesn’t look good for me.
