Default Paste Settings in Word

Hello all. I'm searching for a method of setting the default options for Word 2010's pasting behavior for pasting "between documents" & "from other programs". Since there isn't an option in group policy or the OCT to control this, I've turned to editing the registry. I've found that HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Word\Options\vpref\fPasteBetweenDocs_2233_2 controls the behavior between documents, but it sets it as a default that users aren't able to change. Is there a way to set this default, but allow the user to change the setting if needed?

And does anyone know the registry value for pasting between programs? If there's a better way to set these settings, please let me know.

Hi tuxOnWindows,

I tested this registry key in my own environment, its useless for me. And I didnt find any other group policy or registry key for setting Default Paste in Windows. But I tested in my own environment, I found if I modified this option in a Word file. No matter I opened a new blank document or other existing documents, this option wont reset to default settings. I even restart computer it works fine. You can check it by yourself in your own environment.

Now as a workaround for you, I suggest you make a script to modify the setting in Word and use SCCM tool to deploy this script to users computers. Or you could only modify this setting manually.

Hope its helpful.

Hmm, HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Word\Options\vpref\"fPasteBetweenDocs_2233_2" = 0 forces this setting for me, 32 bit Office 2010 on 64 bit Win 7 Pro SP1. If you are using Office 2013 or 365 this key will not work.

I'd be happy to make a script to set these options, but I'm unaware of what commands I could use to modify these settings. Could you enlighten me?

Hi tuxOnWindows,

Im not good at using script, I suggest you can search it online or you post your requirement in scripting forum.

I'm okay with the scripting part, I just need to know what command or program could change this setting. Since you suggested making a script to do this I'm guessing that you had something in mind.
