Deleting Public Folder Database
Hi, I'm trying to delete the public Folder database in the Second Storage Group from my Exchange 2007 RTM server so that I can uninstall E2K7 and resinstall it. Unfortunately whether I use the console or the Power Shell to delete the database it fails because,
The public Folder Database specified contains folder replicas. Before deleting the public folder database, remove the folders or move the replicas to another public folder database.
I've used the Moveallreplicas script to transfer them to my E2K3 server and waited about 24 hours for the move to complete. There is very little in the public folder, but I don't want to loose what there is, particularly as it is used by our GFI Antispam solution. However despite performing the move I still cannot delete the data base and continue to receive the above error. Get-PublicFolderStatistics reports the following (I've formatted it for ease of view and removed the time stamp),
[PS] C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>get-publicfolderstatistics -server ucbexbur03
Name ItemCount---- --------- --------------EX:/o=UnitedChristianBroadcasters/ou=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT) 3EX:/o=UnitedChristianBroadcasters/ou=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT) 0globalevents 0internal0 OWAScratchPad{511DD290-BB1B-4B86-8E82-880C0E62D750} 0StoreEvents{511DD290-BB1B-4B86-8E82-880C00E62D750} 0
I'm assuming these are the public folders that still remain, but I can't see them under the Exchange 2003 System Manager. I don't have SP1 so can't use the E2K7 Console to view them.
I've tried deleting these folders individually using the Remove-PublicFolder command but I recieve an error saying that there is no existing Publicfolder that matches the following identity.....
I'm at a loss. I can't uninstall E2K7 without uninstalling the Public Folder Database, and I can't remove this database because it contains folder replicas. I can't move or delete these folder replicas so I can't remove the database. It maybe that I'm simply using the wrong command or the wrong syntax, but any help, suggestions or assisstance that you can offer will be gratefully received.
Best Regards
Jez.

If you have replicas on other servers for all public folders, then use ADSIEdit.msc and delete the PF store.

It is recommended to have AD (SystemState) Backup on any domain controllers, before you use ADSIEdit.msc at anytime.
Then Open ADSIEdit.msc
Expand Configuration Partition | Expand CN=Configuration | CN=Services | CN=Microsoft Exchange | CN=<Organization Name> | CN=<Administrative Group> | CN=Servers | CN=Information Store | CN=<Storage Group Name> | right clik on the CN=<Public Folder Store>, which is requried to delete it.
This is only recommended if you have PF data on other servers.

Hi Bala,
After I do AD System Statebackup from NTBackup Utility, does this means that if I delete the wrong Item from ADSIEDIT.msc i can revert back by restoring it from the backup archive ?
I've got a wrong Public Folder database locationwhich needs to be deleted on Exchange Server 2007 SP1, where can I find the "branch" ?
thanks.

I had this issue with 2003 as well but wanted to find another way of removing it without going into ADSIEdit and this is what I found.
OpenESM on the server you want to remove the public folders from. Then go to Administrative Group, Folders, Public Folders. Right click on Public Folders and click on "View System Folders".
Once that is done note what is listed under Administrative Group, ServerName, Storage Group, Public Folder Store, Public Folders.
Then go back to "Administrative Group, Folders,Public Folders" and delete what you noted.
You should then be able to delete the public store.
Remember if you dismount and remount the public store these default folders will be recreated and you will have to do this again.

I'm feeling luck because I'm working in VM environment, I took a snapshot on all DC beforehand and then used the ADSIEDIT.msc to remove the bad public folder. Now I can remove the unwanted exchange server 2007, one less problem.

Well, that's good that your database corruption has been eliminated and if in future you get any database corruption issue and any inbuilt utilities does not work then in order to resolve the issue try EDB Repair sofwtare and say bye-bye to the corruption.
All the best!

HI Jermey,
If still prolem persist then you can try below stpes as i had same and fix in same way.
1: Check which PF folder persist in 2007 sevrer (IMP_Subtree and NON_IPM_subtree)
2: Add replica to exchange 2003 in 2007 left PF folder
3: After some time are after one day just remove Exch 2007 from replica list (You can use ESM )
4: take a reboot of 2007 sevrer
5: Run cmdlet Get-PublicFolderStatistics and dismount pf store and its return NULL
Hope it wil help you :)Anil
