Deploy on a WinServer2003 network
I have a win2003 network which I am in the process of upgrading to 2008R2. We currently have exch 2003 running.
What do I need to do to install Exchange 2010 and then migrate my Exchange 2003 installation?

Hi,
Migration from both Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010 will be supported. As shown in the article
Transitioning to Exchange 2010 , you can see that Excahnge 2003 is supported.
"You can only transition to Exchange 2010 from the following existing messaging systems:
Exchange 2007 messaging system
Combined Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2007 messaging system
This means that if you are upgrading from an Exchange 2003 or Exchange 2007 organization, you can choose to either transition the organization, or migrate to a new organization. In most cases, you will want to retain the Exchange
data from the existing organization, and so you should choose to transition to Exchange 2010.
If you are upgrading from any messaging system besides Exchange 2003 or Exchange 2000, your only option is to migrate to Exchange 2007."
I hope this will help you.
Regards.
Shafaquat Ali.

Have you rebooted the server since you installed RSAT-ADDS?
Do it once more and then try to /PrepareSchema or /PrepareADJonas Andersson MCTS: Microsoft Exchange Server 2007/2010 | MCITP: EMA 2007/2010 | MCSE/MCSA Blog:

Got almost to the very end and got this error message:
The following error was generated when "$error.Clear(); if ($RoleCreatePublicFolderDatabase) {$publicDB = get-PublicFolderDatabase -Server:$RoleFqdnOrName -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue; $DB = get-MailboxDatabase -Server:$RoleFqdnOrName -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue;
if ($publicDB -and $DB) { set-mailboxdatabase -Identity:$DB.Identity -publicFolderDatabase:$publicDB.Identity -DomainController $RoleDomainController}}" was run: "Cannot bind argument to parameter 'Identity' because it is null.".
I tried running the install again but it tells me I already have a mailbox server installed...Enable Legacy only works on first install...

Hi,
When does the error message pop up? Is Exchange 2010 server role installed? If not, please capture the error message, paste it to Paint and upload it to Skydrive
(www.skydrive.live.com) for research.
Meanwhile, please also refer to the following article and check whether there are two same accounts or Public Folders.
Installation problem: Cannot bind argument to
parameter
If Exchange 2010 Server role is installed, please post the following information here.
1. Try to use get-mailboxdatabase |fl identity and then post here.
2. Use get-publicfolderdatabase |fl and then post here.
3.
Collect Event Log and upload it here.
Thanks.

Ended up calling Microsoft support. As always they did an excellent job of helping me finish the installation. Everything seems to be up and running now...
