Deploying Exchange 2010 with Windows Firewall Disabled
Hello,
In our testing environment we deploy a base image with a workflow. In the workflow's that deploy Exchange Roles I have been having an issue and have narrowed it down to Windows Firewall.
ERROR: There are no more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800706D9)
Based on this error and teddious searching on the web, I ran a base image with the Firewall Enabled; the Exchange Roles deploy successfully.
Due to our testing purposes I CANNOT have the firewall enabled. Having the FIREWALL DISABLED has worked in the past on older BASE 2008 R2 images (ones not created by me).
Question: HOW DO I INSTALL EXCHANGE 2010 WITH THE WINDOWS FIREWALL DISABLED?

Hi,
First thing is, its not that it happens all the time that you get this error message and after enabling the FireWall installation completes successsfully.
I have done end number of installation on exchange 2010 I had run into this situation only once :)
The only thing i can say about it is, on which server you are installing exchange! is it DC or Member server.
I am sure you must be aware that you will have to enable IPv6 on DC and Disable the same on Member server to install the Exchange Server!
I have seen the situation where as in Disabling the FireWall resolves the issue ;)
Its very hard to answer the question WHY?
To answer you question HOW DO I INSTALL EXCHANGE 2010 WITH THE WINDOWS FIREWALL DISABLED?
I would have to ask you, are you installing the server on DC or Member server?Gulab | Skype: gulab.mallah

Hi Oliver,
You can install the Exchange server system with Windows firewall disabled. If you need any special help you’re more than welcome to contact me using this forum or my e-mail address.
For production purposes I’ve recommend you using Windows Firewall on or use 3rd party firewall solution.Netanel Ben-Shushan, IT Consultant & Trainer | Website (Hebrew): http://www.ben-shushan.net | IT Services: http://www.ben-shushan.net/services | Weblog (Hebrew): http://blogs.microsoft.co.il/blogs/netanelb | E-mail: msilforums@ben-shushan.net

Hello Gulab,
The exchange roles are all installed on members of the DC. I'll run tests today with the IPv6 (enabled\disabled).
Thanks Gulab for your reply, have a good day.

I've accidently restored the firewall to default settings in SBS 2011 and now Exchange will not run with the firewall turned on - is there anything i can do do fix this?

Are you talking about Windows Firewall or third party? If Windows Firewall is Turned ON than you turn it OFF.Gulab | MCITP: Exchange 2010-2007 | Lync Server 2010 | Windows Server 2008 | Skype: Exchange.Ranger | Blog: www.ExchangeRanger.Blogspot.com

Windows Firewall - and now Exchange rules are all missing from it and Exchange only works with Windows Firewall Off for the time being.
I really need to get this resolved. The ONLY way i'm seeing is to get a fresh set of rules exported from someone but I don't have access to that - do you? or have any suggestions?
