Deploying Exchange Server on two domain controllers?
Hello Community There are 4 separate domain controllers on a network in a forest. One domain controller has Exchange Server on it with all of the users on the network having an email account on that Exchange Server. On another domain controllers there is a need to install Exchange Server also with all of those same user on it and having email accounts. Is there a way for there to be 1 Exchange Server on each of the 2 domain controllers on the network and all of those users have their exact same email user names and passwords on each of the Exchange Servers, if so how? Thank you Shabeaut

A user account in the domain i replicated to each Domain Controller in the same domain. A mailbox is located in an Exchange database. With Exchange 2010 you can replicate and have multiple instances of this database so you can sort of having the mailbox on multiple servers but only one can be used at a time. The only thing you cannot do is create Exchange 2010 DAG with Exchange located on a domain controller. Your option here is to create a DAG with 2 or more Exchange servers, replicate database content to each Exchange server. Exchange must not be on a domain controller so you either demote 2 of your domain controllers or add 2 member servers that also will be Exchange servers. lasse at humandata dot se, http://anewmessagehasarrived.blogspot.com

Hello Lasse Petterson If I understand you correctly your answer is yes, I can have Exchange Server on 2 separate domain controllers in a forest because all I have to do is replicate the database. What I don't understand is what do you mean that only one can be used at at time? Thank you Shabeaut

What I am saying here is that you can replicate Exchange database information to multiple instances. But if you do this, Exchange must not be on a Domain Controller. lasse at humandata dot se, http://anewmessagehasarrived.blogspot.com
