Deployment of Exchange server to the cloud using a hybrid deployment method
Hi
I have just started a new job and have been given a huge task to carry out which i am slightly to say the least confused about. What my company is aiming for is to move "everything" to the cloud. At the moment we have moved our Lync Server to the cloud and
we are using Lync Online which is working fine.
My predecessor started the deployment of exchange to Exchange Online but only got half way through, as it stands we have many routing options that work and some that do not work.
We have 2 "autodiscover" entries in our DNS, autodiscover pointing to our exchange server AND autodiscover.service pointing to exchange online. Looking at our MX records are we supposed to have a record labelled "service" pointing to our on prem or cloud
mail box?
On our EMC we have entries in hub transport for remote and accepted domains.
The mail routing issue is as follows:
External -> Cloud = Fail
On-premise -> cloud = Success
Cloud -> On-premise = Fail
On-premise -> External = Success
External -> On-Premise = Success
I am really confused with these mail routing issues and is giving to say the least "severe" headaches.
Can someone please shed some light on this sticky situation that i am in.

Two autodiscover records is just plain wrong.
It looks like your predecessor started the hybrid configuration with Exchange 2010 SP1. With SP2, the "service" domain is no longer needed. I recommend that you remove what's been done, install Exchange 2010 SP2 if you don't have it installed
already, and restart using the Exchange Deployment Assistant.

Hi
We were in the process of migrating to exchange online via hybrid deployment, now we have decided to go towards a cut over migration but what changed need to be made in order to facilitate this deployment?
And also why is it wrong to have 2 auto discover records ?

Sure, you can go to SP2 without undoing what you've done. But you're saying that what you've done won't work.
If you want to cut over without a hybrid configuration, then you're going to need some way of migrating the mailbox content. Two tools worth considering are MigrationWiz and Cemaphore.
Why would you want two autodiscover records?Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."
