Designing New Site for Exchange
Hi
I need to design a remote site for more than 400 user with a active directory for authentication and exchange server over slow WAN link.We already have a AD and Exchanger server 2003installed in over corporate office.Can any buddy guide me whats the best
design for configuration.I am planning to configure GC for AD and authentication but what for Exchange.I need to take care of that the bandwidth will not get over utilize.

1. If you're still using 2003 and have no plans to upgrade just yet. Then make sure you have a local Exch server at that remote site with a DC/GC. This will reduce the amount replication over the WAN.
2. Also, if you're going to be using PF, then you may want to consider the replication schedule for this to occur at off peak period if acceptable.

in case you cannot upgrade or remote exchange server, recommend to use outlook in cache mode.
also other option to reduce bandwidth are branch cache concept in 2008 R2.

Thanks for the early response.
Well we dont mind to have exchange on remote if it reduce WAN traffic but I dont know how to implement other Exchange on remote site.Is it different with the current exchange we have or It will be new exchange server in same organisation.Can you please guide
me in detains and please tell me what is PF that you mention in your previous post.

1. All your do is install exch and it will join the existing exch Org. You may want to setup a seperate admin group for this remote site and place the new remote server in this site.. Also, create a Routing group and Routing group connector to
the corporate site.
2. You may also want to create a SMTP connector so that internet mail goes out thorugh the local site rather than going across the WAN to the corporate site and then out to the net.
3. PF is Public Folder, if you dont have public folders and the arent used then not to woory, if you do then consider the point above.Sukh
