Directory Services via EWS?
I originally posted this in the Outlook for Mac forum. Any assistance would be appreciated.
Using Outlook 2011 for Mac, when I bring up a GAL contact record, the following message is displayed when I try to access either the Organization or Details tabs:
"The directory service for this contact cannot be found. Make sure that you are connected to the network, and then verify the server address for the directory service for this account."
Directory information is available in OWA but not in Outlook for Mac nor Outlook 2003, 2007, 2010. I can access the GAL from any platform but the information in the AD fields is not displayed in any of the EWS clients. I have no errors in any
of my event logs. DNS looks fine. I can see the info in OWA so it *seems* like Exchange is talking to AD correctly.
Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

EWS only lets you check against the GAL but not browse. I believe setting the ldap parameter to your DC will allow you to browse the GAL but don't any mac clients to test.

I can check the GAL with no problem. My question is more whether you can see the information in the AD properties via EWS. Now that I've updated my GAL and the OAB, my Windows clients can see the directory information in the GAL entry properties.
The GAL in Outlook for Mac still shows blank values in Phone, Address, etc. If I use the DC as my Directory Services address, I can see the Organization, notes, etc. So two things are happening with EWS: the information in AD is slow to show up
in Outlook for Mac and the Organization and Details information is unavailable if the DC isn't designated.
So that returns me to the "question" in my thread's title. Can you view the AD info via EWS or somehow pass on the AD info to Outlook for Mac via EWS?
Thanks.

If you can see the information in OWA, you could also see the information when Outlook works in online model.
Did you try to force Outlook updating OAB immediately?
You could use one of the following methods to update OAB for Outlook client.
1. Create an new Outlook profile.
2. Click “Send/receive”à
Click “Download Address Book”.
