Disabled account
New to Exchange so I am not sure why this is happening: Have an account Smith, Jenney. Whos account was disabled after 3 years. And hidden in the address book. Changed here address from SmithJen@ABC123.com to SmithJenDEL@ABC123.com. Now when someone who has never emailed here gets a non-delivery message, but this that have mailed her before send to the old address and it goes to the mailbox and I can see. No non-delivery message. So how do I deactivate the account without deleting the AD account for a given period of time. I need to make sure that a non-delivery message goes out to everyone. I am very confused. Thanks in advance.

A common practice is to disable the AD account and delete the mailbox (using the Exchange Tasks wizard from Active Directory Users and Computers running on a machine with the Exchange System Management Tools installed). Some organisations like to keep a copy of the mailbox data, in which case Exmerge provides a useful way to archive off the data to a Personal Folder (*.PST) file before deleting the mailbox.
