Disabled account still showing in the address book
Hello On Exchange 2003 and SBS 2003 I tried to tick Hide from Exchange address lists under Exchange Advanced in the disabled account user properties. However on all clients it is still appearing in the address book. Was this the correct procedure to remove it from the address book and if so should I wait until Outlook address book refreshes from the server ?

Hi, Well, just disabling user account doesn't remove the user name from address book. You need select an option "Hide from Exchange address lists" available in Exchange Advance tab of user properties. I used to get the list of disabled users which are not hidden in GAL with below custom LDAP query in Exchange 2003. Open ADU&C, Right click on Domain & click on Find, in Find select "custom search", select Advance tab and in "Enter LDAP Query" paste below ldap query and click on Fiind Now. (mailNickname=*)(userAccountControl=66050)(!msExchHideFromAddressLists=True) You may need to verify the value of an attribute "userAccountControl" of any disabled user with ADSIEdit.msc and give that value instead of 66050 because that one I used in Exchange 2003 and Windows 2003 environment. I hope this will help you. Regards. Shafaquat Ali. M.C.I.T.P Exchange 2007/2010, M.C.I.T.P Windows Server 2008, M.C.T.S OCS Server 2007 R2, URL: http://blog.WhatDoUC.net Phone: +923008210320

If the client is in cached mode then it can take up to 48 hours for an account you have hidden from the Exchange Address lists to go. This is because by default the Offline Address Book which cached mode uses is only updated once every 24 hours, and then the Outlook client can take up to 24 hours after that to download the update. While you can force the OAB to update from the Exchange server, what you cannot do is force the Outlook clients to update their OAB. It is something that has to be done by the user. If you look at the GAL through OWA, you should find the account you have hidden isn't shown, because OWA uses live information. Disabling the account has no effect on the account showing (or not) in the address book, as already indicated. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP. http://blog.sembee.co.uk , http://exbpa.com/
