I have ainternal domain of work.nmh.org that all my computers are part of. The onlyDomain is work.nmh.org and this is where all my FSMo roles are as well. The problem is that nmh.org is owned by sombody else and my actual outside domian is hello.org. All of my users emaillooks like user@hello.org. the webpage hello.comis hosted off site but it is directed here first and so is our email. My question is "Do I have to set up a seperate domain and a domain controller for hello.org?" This is a fresh install of exchange it has not been used here before.

What is your goal? There are two things I would imagine you might want to accomplish:-Allow users to login to their computers with username@hello.org-Use your work.nmh.org domain to send and receive email for the hello.org domainBoth of these goals can be reached with ease. To accomplish the first you could configure a "UPNSUFFIX". This will allow users to loginto username@whateveryouwant and have Active Directory treat it as the internal Domain.The email routing can be done by creating additional Accepted domains (exchange 2007). Our emails are hosted on site by a very old system called sendmail. But the suffix on the emails @nacmem.org which has no domain controller on site. So how can exchage verify the users or emails. We own a static ip and it points to us so all emails come here but just our web page is hosted outside the facility. the only domain on site is work.nmh.org.

Mike,I have not launched Exchange 2007 yet but I am leary of setting up a new domain because I have600 computers on wor.nmh.org already and this includes servers with every type of OS possiable. I am also at a Hospital so downtime is not an option.I am intrested in this UPN Suffix thought I have never heard of it though.Thank you again

Yes, this could be possible even if you don't want to go with domain rename and as Mike told to add UPN suffix, accepted domain and email address policies... If the users are used to logging into the domain as they do today, the upn suffix might not really buy you anything. but it might make it simpler for users if they just rememember to login with what they perceive to be their email address. We are not migrateing to sendmail this a fresh install of Exchange 2007.The reason I mentioned the FSMO is to let you know that I have only one Domain here and it is a internal Intranet only(work.nmh.org). The internal domain does not match the suffix on our email(@nacmem.org). So I wanted to know DO I need a new Global Catalog domain controller to run the nacmem.org domain and run the required Exchange domain prep on it?

the "prepare ad" actions by domain prep prepare the active directory domain/forest for the introduction of exchange by adding attributes, security groups, etc. This preperation has nothing to do with the SMTP namespaces you are accepting for. Before you install exchange 2007 in your AD environment run /preparead. Once you have exchange installed you can add accepted domains, and email address policies.
