I have a client that is a small office. They run Microsoft Office 2010 on Windows 7 Professional. They have a network share available on a server (running Server 2008 R2) to everyone in the office. They all have read and write permissions to all files and folders on the share.

One user occasionally opens a document and it will open as Read-Only. He is unable to save over the document after making changes because of this. However, if he closes the document and re-opens it, he can edit it without an issue.

I have checked all of the permission levels, so it's not that. The last time this happened I went into the server and checked all the open files and he was the only user listed for having that document open. He's getting very frustrated and I'm out of ideas on a possible solution.

I just had this problem. The solution to my problem is that when I created the share I left the *share* permissions as 'Everyone: Read' rather than setting 'Everyone: Full Control', so even while the file permissions were fine, the share permissions were overriding them as read-only.

Thanks, but I've already checked ALL The share permissions. All domain users already have full control of the shares.

Nobody has any other suggestions?

I am having the same thing occurring.  Same setup with only one user being affected.  Share permissions are the same as well.  Interested to see if anyone has a solution.

I'm going to bump this with a solution. I realized the user had the preview pane open on file explorer. When they would click on the document, the preview pane locks the document to allow viewing. If you're still encountering this issue, make sure the preview pane is disabled.
