Does Exchange 2007 work with Exchange 2003 or not??
Hello all. We currently have a Exchange 2003 with SP2 server in production which is where all of our mailboxes are. We recently purchased a 64 bit blade and installed Exchange 2007. I have moved over two mailboxes of users who are no longer here for testing purposes and those mailboxes can communicate with each other just fine. I can even send an email from a mailbox on the 2007 server to a recepient on the 2003 server with no problem, HOWEVER, if I attempt to reply BACK to that 2007 recepient, the mail gets stuck in the 2003 server queue indefinitely until it finally times out with a NDR reprt back to the 2003 mailbox sender. I really need these two servers to be able to function together while I continue to move mailboxes off the one and onto the other. Is this not possible? I thought I read somewhre that a 2007 exchange server will not talk to a 2003 server, but that couldn't make any sense as the 2003 server receives the mail from the 2007 with no problem? Complicating this problem is the fact that we utilize Microsoft Exchange Hosted Services as our email/spam/content filter service, so right now inbound mail is being directed to the Exchange 2003 server. So, if I send email from outside to any of the mailboxes I have moved onto Exch 2007, they don't get that either because it again gets stuck in the queue on the 2003 box because 2007 will never answer the 2003 server. Anybody else had that problem and can offer a solution, that would be great!!!

Hi, When installing an exchange 2007 server into an existing exchange 2003 organization a routing groups connector should be created. Sounds as if your is only a one-way RCG. You could try to delete the existing connector and create a new 2-way connector - help file explains how to do this. Leif

Sounds feasible. Actually a relief if that is indeed the case. What help file are you referring to?

Actually, it turns out that my problem was I am using a smarthost for spam/email filtering; Microsoft Exchange Hosted Services. Once I removed the smarthost config from the 2003 SMTP virtual server, leaving it only on the routing connector, mail started routing just fine between the 2003 and 2007 servers, but I appreciate the help!!
